The Swedish Geological Survey (SGU) has commissioned Sweco to, with our help, prepare measures for the decontamination of the polluted lake Ala Lombolo in Kiruna County, Sweden.

Contaminated sediment will be treated on a laboratory scale with C-Green's technology in our custom-built facilities in Solna. Lake Ala Lombolo has been heavily impacted by elevated levels of metals, which are spread downstream to the Torne River. With C-Green's technology, metals and other environmental toxins such as PCBs and dioxins can be removed from the environment, concentrated, and disposed of responsibly. Sweco is one of Europe's leading architecture and technology consulting companies.

The dire status of the lake was discovered in the early 90s. When fish samples were to be collected for analysis, no fish was found. The reasons behind the heavy contamination remain unclear, but an old wastewater treatment plant and runoff from mining operations seem to have contributed. And to make matters worse, the Swedish military dumped 17.000 grenades in the lake in 1954.
